Asthma Friendly School
The children and staff at Bradleys Both Community Primary School are delighted to have been successfully awarded accreditation as an Asthma Friendly School.
The school has worked extremely hard in partnership with West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership over the last year. The initiative aims to improve the care of pupils with asthma by raising awareness regarding this common medical condition and providing information, training and support for pupils, parents/carers and school staff.
We are thrilled to have our hard work recognised and through increased knowledge and training our staff have gained confidence in supporting children who have a diagnosis of asthma. At Bradleys Both the care, nurture and wellbeing of our pupils is paramount and through the completion of the initiative we have strengthened our provision for our children. (May 2025)
North Yorkshire Council’s director of public health, Louise Wallace, says:
"The awarding of the Asthma Friendly School accreditation is a fantastic achievement highlighting the excellent work that Bradleys Both Community Primary School has done to ensure that its children with asthma are supported to attend school and manage their condition."

Asthma is the most common long-term medical condition in children in the UK, with around one in 11 children and young people living with asthma.
The UK has one of the highest prevalence, emergency admission and death rates for childhood asthma in Europe. Outcomes are worse for children and young people living in the most deprived areas.
NHS England and NHS Improvement’s stated ambition is to reduce avoidable harm to children and young people from asthma and improve their quality of life.
